KELLY HEBESTREIT
Kelly Hebestreit is a photographer and installation artist.
Born in Germany, she spent her core years in Hong Kong before relocating to multiple cities including Tokyo and Los Angeles. She currently resides in Hong Kong. Focusing primarily on portraiture and documentary images, she is particularly drawn to subjects that are dynamic yet unconventional. Her love for the medium stems from an interest in using photography as a means of manipulating and glorifying the spaces she occupies. Her work often features abstract compositions in decaying dream-like landscapes, crafting bold interpretations of her own reality.
In her artistic practice she focuses primarily on the creation of installations, exploring the emotional dynamic between the audience and the private spectacle. Her self-published zine ‘Satellite’ (2021) features photographs taken during the artist’s first visit to Joshua Tree in the summer of 2020. She exhibited her work in a solo-show of the same name, replicating the quiet doom of the desert by showcasing a variety of photography, sculpture, sound design and mixed media pieces.
